Bad Day at the Vet

We finally got all of the humans well in the family, and then on Sunday we noticed a sore on Elliot's back paw. Now it's the cat's turn! I took him to the vet today to have it checked out, and the doctor also looked at a bump near his ear, which I just assumed was an infected bug bite. Our vigilence paid off with the early discovery of 2 Mast Cell Tumors -- both his foot and his head. Elliot, now 5 1/2 years old, will have surgery on Monday to remove his cancerous tumors and we will pray it has not spread. I was sent home today with my sick furry child, a crabby 11 month old human child who patiently waited at the vet during the testing, and an information sheet explaining Mast Cell Tumors and the myriad of treatment that can sometimes include veterinary oncologists, chemo, and other things that you never think your pet will ever need. I am thankful for these specialists, but I am hopeful they are people I never have to meet.

Me and My Shadow

Sometimes it is the simplest things Colin does that makes us smile -- last week the morning sun was shining through the window and Colin saw his shadow on the wall. He enjoyed about a minute of waving at his shadow, which I managed to catch on camera.
Have you waved at your friendly shadow lately?

Swim Lessons

Colin and Dad are enjoying swim lessons together at the Bellevue Aquatic Center. His favorite water game is for Dad to toss the rubber ducky and then to "swim" after it. 30 minutes in the pool is not long enough for that game! This was his second lesson, which went much better than the first -- he was a bit scared the first time he was in the water with a dozen other tikes and their parents.

Our First Blog!

Since my recent semi-retirement from ECG at the end of January, I have been looking into ways to share with family and friends the daily happenings of the Sturm family. A friend at church with a son Colin's age has a family blog, and I thought, "What a fabulous way to share stories, photos, etc.!" So here goes!
Check in here with us frequently (perhaps a few times a week) and learn the latest from our family. We hope to hear from you, as well, soon!
